Police have arrested the errant truck driver identified as Santosh Mandal who was trying to flee after the accident. He was arrested from the spot. Police are verifying whether Mandal was driving the truck under the influence of alcohol or was the accident just because of a blink of an eye, said a police officer.
According to the police, the incident was reported to them at around 5.10 am when a truck carrying cement allegedly overturned after hitting a divider in front of the Lavanya Resorts near Shani temple in Alipur.
One of the locals informed police after which they rushed to the spot. The three labourers, identified as Bachcha Yadav (40), Pawan Yadav (30) and Dilip (30), all residents of Begusarai in Bihar were found to be buried under the cement bags.
Meanwhile, police are verifying whether the driver, Mandal was driving the vehicle under the influence of alcohol or was he sleepy.
Police rushed them to the SRHC (Satyawadi Raja Harish Chander) hospital where they were declared dead on admission.
An investigating officer said that they, the police along with the fire brigade rescued three other labourers who were sitting in the cabin of the truck. These three received minor injuries.
All the injured are currently being treated at the Intensive Care Unit considering their nature of injuries. The injured are identified as Arvind (35), Nandu (30), and Varun (30). “The condition of the injured is still critical,” said a police officer.
A case under relevant sections of the IPC has been registered at the Alipur police station against the errant driver. Further investigation is underway.
