The sufi way of concern

Update: 2014-04-22 18:52 GMT
Get ready for a sufi delight as Ammucare Charitable Trust(Act) is up with their event Sufiaana, a fusion charity concert.

The event will mark the sufi recital by Ragini Rainu and dance performance by Padma Bhushan Shovana Narayan.

Rainu, the young Sufi singer of India, is the disciple of the legendary Santoor maestro and music composer Pandit Bhajan Sopori. With a strong base of classical gayaki (vocal system), her style is embedded with tayari (fluency) and bhava (aesthetics and expressions). Hailing from Jammu, Ragini represents the musical family of Kashmir, and sings primarily the structured sufi style and also the ghazal and poetic kafi genres. She is equally at ease with the traditional genres as with the modern nuances.

Narayan is India’s most celebrated kathak guru and maestro of the present age. She has also become a living legend who has blazed a trail in kathak, re-defining the ethos and vocabulary of kathak bestowing it with dignity and enriching it with a deeper and wider canvas of expression and dimensions.

She combines artistry with keen observation and humanism. She has also worked in collaborations with known Indian and western dancers and musicians.
