There are weeks when reality shows, news and series don’t do much justice to the avid TV watchers. Last week was one such. Mallika Sherawat’s shenanigans on her reality shows has successfully irked the living daylights out of us and even comedian Bharti’s appearance on the show made no difference. Bharti challenged the boys to ‘pick her up’ - we were sincerely hoping with that a lady with such killer comic timing would come up with something better.
Bigg Boss is keeping its promise of small screen dram by delivering enough fights and tears to wean you off Bollywood flicks for good. Fortunately there was Shahid releasing this week at the theatres that gave some respite to the suffocating dose of melodrama. But then there was Boss lest we rejoice too much.
The live coverage of Phailin dominated the news space as the Odisha CM gave himself a discrete pat on the back too soon, the (normally unreliable) MET department was bang on this time. Developments in the Aarushi Talwar case and the ASI’s gold digging spree at Unnao fort got their share of lime light and will be dominating a share of the TV attention pie next week as well. However, the ace in the pack for this week was Virat Kohli’s century on 16 October. India stunned Australia to register their best ever run-chase in one-day internationals and second best in overall history of the game on Wednesday - 17 October (this is the sport’s expert’s input - I never remember sports figures). 721 runs were scored in 93.3 overs, with just six wickets going down.
Kohli hit 8 boundaries and 7 sixes in his staggering knock to score his century in just 52 balls and trumped Sehwag’s record by 8 balls, a record he had held for four years.
But one thing we must point out - if you haven’t seen the new Tanishq advert with Raj Kumar and Tena Desae, keep your eyes on the breaks. It is one of the best adverts seen in recent times.
