Following the opposition from some local residents against the unfurling of national flag at Syed Bhureshah Muslim Girls’ School, heavy security arrangements were made at Dankaur in Greater Noida ahead of Republic Day celebrations in the school compound.
According to a report, the school authorities had to approach the police after some residents stopped the Republic Day preparations on Monday and expressed their opposition against celebrations. The police, amid tight security, ensured peaceful celebration and hoisting of flag in the school ground.
Senior officials of Noida Police told that adequate security arrangements were made to avoid any untoward incident and action would be taken against people who try to disrupt Republic Day celebrations. Some residents were summoned to the local police station after the complaint. “Several people were objecting the unfurling of the national flag and teaching methods in the school. These people were agitated over the implementation of Hindi and English as medium of teaching. In the past, they (a particular group) have not just objected day to day happening but have reportedly created furore in the school premise. To avoid any kind of hooliganism, we have deployed police and are monitoring the situation. The persons, involved in disruptions, will be treated as per the law as they have been summoned by us,” said an official.
Kadir Khan Jayswal, secretary of Hazarat Syed Bhureshah Committee, which runs the school, said despite resistance from several extremist groups, the committee is determined to to give modern education in the school. “The school is being run by the Waqf Board since 2011 after having approval from the district administration. Things were going right in the beginning but people started to raise objection after we started teaching English and Hindi. Even teachers and students have been targeted and vandalism in the school premise have taken places on various occasions,” said Jayswal.
He informed that things went worse when the group illegally occupied the school earlier this month. On Monday, they vandalised the structure made for flag hoisting and warned to communalise the area. “Things are getting worse. We have written to Chief Minister, Governor and local authorities about this long ago but nothing has been done so far. Hardliners are forcing us to unfurl national flag and to stop modern education in the school,” added Jayswal.
