Two persons were killed while five others were critically injured in a road accident on the Yamuna Expressway on Friday morning. Police said that the victims met with the accident when their vehicle rammed into another vehicle standing at the Expressway. The victims were admitted to a private hospital where two were declared brought dead while five were admitted at the ICU where the condition of one was stated to be critical. Police have sent the bodies for post-mortem but are yet to register a case against any of the vehicles’ occupant.

According to the police, the accident took place around 5 am about 21-kilometre away from Zero-point on Agra-Greater Noida carriageway when a tempo, coming from Mainpuri district and going towards Azadpur Mandi in Delhi, hit a stationary dumper from behind. The impact of the accident was so high that most part of the tempo, full with green vegetables, rammed into the sand-laden dumper causing severe injuries to all seven occupants. The driver and his companion succumbed on the spot while others were thrown hither-thither on the stretch.

The passers-by made a PCR call and a rescue team of Jaypee authority, a company which looks after upkeep and maintenance of the entire 165-kilometre long carriageway connecting Delhi to Agra via Greater Noida and local police reached the spot. The victims were admitted to a nearby Kailash Hospital in Greater Noida where the two — Shivpal and Dinesh — were declared brought dead while five others — Dalchand, Rambharose, Bikesh, Ajaypal and Kamal — were admitted to the ICU.

“We have sent the bodies for post-mortem and have informed their families too. We have also admitted the injured persons to a hospital where they have been recuperating. As we have not received any complaint from the victims’ family, we have not registered a case against the dumper driver,” said a senior police official of Greater Noida.
