Temperatures to further drop on New Year

The weathermen also predicted dense fog in the first half of January.

‘The city will get a spell of rain and thunder showers between Monday evening and Tuesday afternoon,’ said a senior scientist at the Regional Meteorological Centre, Delhi.

 ‘Another western disturbance is likely to affect western Himalayan region during the first week of January 2014, which would result in rain and snowfall at many places in Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh and at a few places in Uttarakhand,’ he added. The cascading effect of this weather condition will bring down temperature in Delhi and NCR region he added further.

‘Moderate to dense fog with visibility less than 500 metre will follow this weather condition,’ said the weathermen. The dense to very dense fog will also be seen in Punjab, Haryana, north-Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh.

In Delhi, the maximum temperature on Thursday was 20.6 degree Celsius which was normal while minimum was recorded at 6.2 degree Celsius which was two degrees below normal. The weathermen have predicted that the maximum and minimum temperature on Friday will hover around 20 and six degree Celsius respectively.
