Son of a bag seller in Ballimaran at Old Delhi’s Sadar Bazar area, Mohd Khalid told investigators that whenever he approached a woman, he was ridiculed because of his short height. At five feet, the 31-year-old man decided to teach women a lesson.

Sources privy to the investigation said it was inferiority complex due to his short height that led Mohd Khalid to commit such crimes.

Post a couple of failed relationships and marriage refusal by a woman nine months back, Khalid’s frustration reached its peak.

At first, he started randomly calling up people. There was no data with him. If the call was answered by a woman, he saved her number. He further revealed that if he liked her WhatsApp profile picture, he sent vulgar texts and videos just to vent out his frustration, said a police officer.

Police said that he kept two mobile numbers, both obtained on fake IDs bought from a shop in Sadar Bazaar where he, along with his father, sold bags.

During investigation, police found out that he had saved around 2,000 numbers of women on his phones.

Sources said that to avoid confusion, he saved the women’s numbers using codes like AI, A2, AA1, B1 etc.

On May 30, a 25-year-old woman complained at the Ashok Vihar police station that she was getting obscene messages from a man. Based on her complaint, police registered a case under relevant sections of the IPC and relevant sections of IT Act.

According to a police officer, when a team of policemen tried to trace down the identity of Khalid, they found that he had obtained three SIM cards on three forged Identification Cards. While one of them was for personal and professional use, the other two were used to send audacious texts and video clips.

Sources said that on one hand, one of the numbers was found to be registered in the name of one Kishan Lal, who died years back while another number was found to be registered in a girl’s name living in Patel Nagar.

During investigation, police also found that several cases had been registered against him across Delhi-NCR and complaints have been made against him to the Women Helpline numbers as well.
Through Call Detail Records and local intelligence, police somehow traced Khalid and on June 29 and he was apprehended from his shop in Sadar Bazaar.

During sustained interrogation, he broke down and revealed that he has been sending obscene messages to women at random for the past nine months.
