It was learnt that on 6 August, room No. 5 (located on the first floor), which was used by the TDP, was allotted to the Trinamool Congress and the latter was given another room on the third floor.
However, the party, which has used room No 5 ‘for the last 30 years’, was in no mood to vacate it.
However, the TDP leaders allegedly refused to leave the room when Trinamool Congress MPs led by Sudip Bandopadhyaya, Kalyan Banerjee and Sultan Ahmed went to put their nameplates.
But half-an-hour later, TDP MPs arrived there in whose presence the nameplates of their party leaders YS Chowdhary, Thota Narsimhan and CM Ramesh were re-installed again. The situation turned bitter when TDP leaders manhandled the MPs of Trinamool Congress. They were asked to maintain discipline in the parliament but the TDP leaders went on agitating and reportedly abused the leader of Trinamool Congress.
Speaking to the media persons TDP leader, YS Chowdhary said, ‘We are going to meet the speaker over the uncultured behaviour of TMC members. We have been occupying the room for the last 30 years. A few nameplates were removed. It is not democratic.’
However, the letter of allotment issued by DS Malha, a director in the Lok Sabha secretariat, states that as approved by the competent authority, room No.5 has been allotted to Trinamool Congress for the tenure of the 16th Lok Sabha.
The letter asks Trinamool Congress to take occupancy of the room and notify the same. But despite that the TDP members has created a ruckus in the parliament ‘putting the nation under shame for their act’.
It was learnt that speaker Sumitra Mahajan has called a meeting with the representatives of both parties to sort out the matter.
