Tatkal marriage registration to be 90% cheaper in Delhi

Marriage registration is all set to become an inexpensive affair in the national Capital with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government proposing to bring down the fee of "tatkal service" for marriage certificates by 90 per cent.

As per the existing fee structure, one has to shell out Rs 10,000 to get a marriage registration certificate within 24 hours, using tatkal service. The government has now proposed to reduce fee of tatkal service to Rs <g data-gr-id="38">100</g>0.

Last year in April, the Delhi government’s Revenue Department had introduced 'tatkal service' for registering marriage on the lines of passports and rail tickets. This service was introduced to provide the papers on <g data-gr-id="35">priority</g> basis to those who seek them urgently.

"We have proposed to reduce the fee of tatkal service from the existing Rs 10,000 to Rs 1,000. The move will also encourage people to register their nuptials with government," said a senior government official.

The official added that the move aims to check corruption due to <g data-gr-id="32">inexpensive</g> fee of such service, besides boosting the government's revenue.

A proposal has been forwarded to the finance department, headed by Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, for its consideration.

The government had made the registration of marriage within 60 days of tying the knot mandatory.
The proposal also favours to standardise fee structure of normal service for the <g data-gr-id="39">authorisation</g> of marriage. "We are also reviewing the fee of normal service for <g data-gr-id="36">the,</g> same which is very less. The government wants to standardise the fee structure of such service," the official added.

According to rules, any marriage solemnised in Delhi  has to be compulsorily registered.
