Swine flu claims first city victim

A 51 year old woman who succumbed to viral fever at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital on Wednesday last was suffering from Swine Flu. This was confirmed by  hospital sources on Friday. The woman a resident of Ghaziabad’s Model Town area, was taken to  Yasoda Super Speciality Hospital there after she complained of fever and cold. She was later moved to Columbia hospital and then to Sir Ganga Ram Hospital on December 21. 

A statement issued by the hospital read:  the patient was admitted in a critical state, she had lung failure and was on high frequency ventilator support. It  confirmed that she had swine flu. She succumbed to the virus on December 24. According to sources, the health department has provided Tamiflu (an antiviral medication) to everyone who was in contact with the woman, including the hospital staff and her family members. Sources said, “Another woman is being treated for swine flu at AIIMS. She tested positive for H1N1 virus at a private diagnostic centre, and her test reports are being examined at AIIMS .”
