Surya Prakash releases new book - Public Money, Private Agenda

Renowned journalist and author of What Ails Indian Parliament A Surya Prakash launched his new book – Public Money, Private Agenda: The Use and Misuse of MPLADS on Thursday at Vivekanand International Foundation in New Delhi.

Governor of Punjab Shivraj Patil, former union minister Arun Shourie, union tribal affairs minister Kishore Chandra Deb, former Lok Sabha speaker P Sangma, BJP leader M Venkaiah Naidu and senior Congress leader Jaipal Reddy were also present on the ocassion.

The book takes a close look at the controversial MPLADS (Member of Parliament Local Area Devlopement Scheme) which was launched two decades ago. The scheme that costs the exchequer a staggering Rs 4,000 crore per annum has been slammed on the grounds that it breeds corruption and violates the seperation of power between legislature and the executive.
