According to reports, the monsoon, which arrived in Delhi about a week earlier this season, has delayed its departure and more rain is likely this week. The city has already received 786.7 mm rain till 19 September, which is more than its normal seasonal rainfall of 648.9 mm.
‘The normal date of withdrawal of monsoon from Delhi is 21 September, which is likely to be delayed
in the wake of rainfall activity
over Delhi NCR and adjoining region in the coming few days,’ said M Duraisamy, scientist in charge of weather forecast at Delhi Regional Meteorological Centre.
Records indicate 22.2 mm heavy rainfall in the city from 8.30 am to 5.30 pm on Saturday. The meteorological department has predicted cloudy sky and mild to heavy rainfall in the city on Sunday and in the coming week.
The rainfall on Saturday brought down the maximum temperature to 34 degree Celsius and minimum at 24.9 degree Celsius which were normal. The maximum and minimum temperatures on Sunday are expected to hover around 35 and 25 degree Celsius respectively.
While Delhiites enjoyed the heavy showers, they also faced waterlogging and traffic jams at some major intersections including ITO, Okhla, metro construction sites and arterial roads of the city. Municipal corporations recorded one incident of a tree falling at Patel Nagar, resulting in chocked traffic for over three hours.
