The preliminary post-mortem report states Sunanda died due to poisoning. While news reports said her autopsy indicated drug overdose, on Tuesday, SDM Alok Sharma said she died of poisoning. ‘She did not die because of an inadvertent drug overdose, but by deliberate administration of drugs aimed to end life,’ a source said.

Speaking to Millennium Post, Sharma said, ‘We are waiting for viscera report. It will clear the reason of poisoning and indicate whether she had herself consumed poison to end her life or she unwittingly had an overdose of drugs that proved lethal.’

A source close to investigation said, ‘No evidence of suicide was found. No suicide note was recovered from her possession. Also, the statements of Sunanda’s family and immediate friends do not hint towards harassment.’ So far around 11 persons have recorded their statements before the SDM, including Shashi Tharoor, Rajesh and Ashish Pushkar (brothers), her domestic help, driver, hotel staff, journalist Nalini Singh (her friend) and doctors who reached the spot.

A source in the hospital said, ‘Around a dozen injury marks were noticed on her hands, few bruises on her left cheek that might be due to the use of blunt force.’ However, in the autopsy report death due to injuries was ruled out by the doctors.

Sources in police department said, ‘Even if she had committed suicide, a case of abetment to suicide can be pressed against Tharoor and Pak journalist Mehr Tarar on the basis of exchange of messages on Twitter.’
