New Delhi World Book Fair 2016 (NDWBF) has turned out to be more than just a fair catering to the book lover’s demands, but it is also a treat for the literal boffins, who have different agenda rather than just window shopping of books.
LiFi Publications and Anhui People’s Publishing House (China) organised ‘The Colorful Silk Road: a promotional event for books and products on Chinese folklore culture at the 24th New Delhi World Book Fair (NDWBF). An agreement between both publishers was signed at the event for the publishing of ten titles including ‘Highlights of China’ and ‘Talk the Silk Road’.
The agreement also aims to enrich the cultural communication and cooperation between India and China by way of building mutual cooperation of publishers from both countries. Prominent figures from Indian publishing industry and literati, the delegation from the State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television of China, the Publicity Department of the CPC Provincial Committee of Anhui Province (China) and Anhui Publishing Group (China) attended the Book Fair.
At the event, Ramesh Mittal, the Director of LiFi Publications and Hu Zhengyi, the President of Anhui People’s Publishing House vowed bilateral cooperation in publishing and the distinctive features of Chinese folklore works respectively.
Peng Xinliang, a folklore scholar from the National Festival Committee of China Union Anthropological and Ethnological Sciences, presented the material samples on-site, introducing the characteristic folklore of the Spring Festival to the audience. Several folklore artists from China demonstrated traditional folklore performances, Spring Festival couplets, paper cutwork, Chinese knotted stitches, etc. Six lucky attendees were presented with the souvenirs specially designed for the 2016 New Delhi World Book Fair.
This year, China is the ‘Guest of Honour’ country in the NDWBF, organised by National Book Trust of India. More than 70 Chinese publishers have arrived this year to promote their books at the Fair.
