HS Prannoy carried the Indian flag flying in the Swiss Open as he notched up a victory in the second round of men's singles on Wednesday.
After beating German David Peng 21-15, 21-18 in the opening round, the 24-year-old from Kerala eased part Scotland's Kieran Merrilees 21-17, 21-19 to advance in
the tournament.
Prannoy will be up against China's Qiao Bin next whobeat Rasmus Gemke of Denmark 21-19, 21-13.
Along with Prannoy, Subhankar Dey also advanced to the next round after beating Slovenia's Iztok Utrosa 21-17, 21-18.
He will be facing Japanese Kanta Tsuneyama, who beat India's Sameer Verma 16-21, 21-15, 21-13.
It was a disappointing day for the Syed Modi Grand Prix winner Sameer Verma as he bowed out of the tournament despite winning the first set against Japan's Tsuneyama.
Sameer began well by moving the Japanese aroundand took the first set 16-21 but Ysuneyama came right back at him. Sameer let the pressure get to him and the Japanese snatched the game from his fist.
In men's doubles, Pranaav Chopra and Sikki Reddy
advanced through walkover but Rohan Kapoor-Sanjana Santosh and Sanjana-Sara Arathi faced defeat in mixed doubles and women's doubles respectively.
