ATK sacks Sheringham, Westwood is interim coach

Kolkata: Indian Super League (ISL) outfit ATK have announced that they have parted ways with head coach Teddy Sheringham. The Kolkata-based franchise have also
stated that Technical Director Ashley Westwood will be in charge for an interim basis.
ATK are languishing in eighth position in the ten-team league and Sheringham paid the price after the team won just the three games out of the 10 matches they played.
The two-time champions have never failed to make it to the playoff stages of the ISL so far.
And with the team facing the prospect of not making it to the top-four this time around, the Sanjiv Goenka co-owned side have opted to shuffle things around.
The former Manchester United striker has not really had the best of fortunes with injuries, with star signing Robbie Keane spending more time recuperating at home rather than on the pitch over the course of the season.
Combined with the team's tepid style of play, the pressure was always on Sheringham and it has finally resulted in him being shown the door out.
Ashley Westwood, his replacement, has extensive experience in India, having coached Bengaluru FC to two I-League titles.
He has been woring behind the scenes at ATK so far this season but will now try to steady a rocking ship.
ATK next face Chennaiyin FC on Thursday at the Salt Lake Stadium.
