Delhi Jal Board (DJB) has plugged 310 leakages in its pipelines during a special drive in the past one month. Terming the drive as “quite successful”, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of DJB <g data-gr-id="37">S S</g> Yadav on Sunday said leakages were detected and plugged immediately due to which millions of litres of water have been saved.
“The leakages include both surface leakages which are easy to detect as well as hidden leakages which are detected with the help of instruments. Millions of litres of water have been saved by detecting and plugging these leakages,” Yadav said.
He said 20 special squads were constituted for detection of leakages and they were equipped with
latest instruments and gadget to detect hidden leakages.
“DJB has developed a state-of-the-art geographical information system (GIS). The leakages detected are plotted on the GIS map. This gives instant information to DJB about the areas vulnerable to hidden and surface leakages,” the DJB said in a press release.
It also said that DJB has prepared a plan to replace the pipelines in vulnerable areas which will help in reducing the number of leakages in future.
DJB also said that commissioning of new water treatment plants at Dwarka and Bawana has helped them in improving water supply in Delhi this year and water production has gone up from 835 MGD to 880 MGD.
DJB appealed to the people to inform DJB’s 24x7 <g data-gr-id="28">help line</g> number 1916 if they find <g data-gr-id="26">leakage</g> in any pipeline.
Jal Board starts generation of <g data-gr-id="55">bio-gas</g> power at Kondli STP
Delhi Jal Board (DJB) has started generation of <g data-gr-id="79">bio-gas</g> power at its sewage treatment plant (STP) in Kondli, making it the third STP to have such facility. According to DJB, its total gas-based power generation at the three STPs has now gone up to 40,000 KWH per day.
“DJB has started generation of <g data-gr-id="78">bio-gas</g> power from its 45 MGD sewage treatment plant at Kondli. The plant has started producing 10,000 KWH per day which will increase further in the coming days,” the DJB said in its press release.
It said that apart from Kondli STP, the <g data-gr-id="75">bio-gas</g> based plants have also been commissioned at Okhla and Rithala.
“At Okhla STP, 12,000 KWH and at Rithala STP 20,000 KWH are being generated daily,” it said, adding that presently 30 to 35 <g data-gr-id="77">per cent</g> of the power demand of these three STPs is met from the electricity generated from its <g data-gr-id="76">bio-gas</g> based plants.
It said they have plans to install <g data-gr-id="80">bio-gas</g> based power generation in all its STPs wherever technically feasible.“In the coming days, power generation will start in sewage treatment plants at Pappan Kalan, <g data-gr-id="81">Nilothi</g>, Yamuna Vihar and Delhi Gate. DJB has set the target to increase the power generation capacity to 70,000 KWH of power per day from its gas-based plants by the end of current year. This will save at least Rs 20 crore per year in the power bill of the DJB,” it said.
