A 45-year-old man was crushed to death by a speeding Range Rover car, driven by a man in drunken state in north-west Delhi’s Kanhaiya Nagar on late Saturday night.
The accident at around 11.50 pm when Saikit (22), the accused, along with his sister and cousins were going towards PrahladPur Chowk from Inderlok area.
When they reached Kanhaiya Nagar chowk, Saikit applied emergency brakes after seeing that a man was crossing the road. In the process, he lost the balance and the car first hit the parked vehicles at the roadside and then rammed into the passerby. The locals nabbed the accused and made a call to the police control room.
The police team immediately rushed him to the nearby hospital where he was declared dead.
The deceased was identified as Jakhu (45) who is a resident of JJ Colony and works as a labourer in the area. At the time of the incident, he was returning home after watching Ramleela in north-west Delhi. The accused, a resident of Model Town has been booked under relevant sections of Indian Penal Code for rash and negligent driving and causing death by negligence.
