The Lieutenant Governor Secretariat on Wednesday issued instructions that some Kashmiri students of the Jawaharlal Nehru University who escaped from the campus in fear of falling prey to police action could approach via phone on 1093/100 or email on splcp-crime-dl@nic.in for assistance.

LG Najeeb Jung has appointed Taj Hassan as the Special Nodal Officer to address such issues.

“This arrangement is on the similar lines as that of made for students from the North-East,” said Jung in a statement.

It is pertinent to mention that owing to fear of police action more than 100 Kashmiri students of JNU left their hostels rooms and their rooms are locked. According to the students, the police action following the row over Afzal Guru’s death anniversary event has forced several students to leave their hostel rooms as most of them are fearful of police action. The whole incident had sparked off on the night of February 9, when a group of students organised an event in which anti-India slogans were allegedly raised.
