In a major road accident on Yamuna Expressway on Tuesday morning, Deputy Commissioner (DC) posted at Najafgarh zone of MCD South, SC Yadav (60), and his four-year-old grandson died while two of his family members including his wife, were critically injured on their way to Mathura.
The police said that the victims met with the mishap when an unidentified vehicle hit their car while trying to overtake. All of them were admitted in ICU immediately where Yadav and his grandson succumbed to their injuries while the condition of the remaining two was stated to be critical. The police have registered a case but are yet to identify the accused driver.
They said the accident took place at around 7:45 am about 60-kilometres away from the zero point on Greater Noida-Agra carriageway in Mathura region when a speeding vehicle hit Yadav’s Swift Dezire.
The impact of the accident was so high that the DC, who was driving the car, lost control over the vehicle and it turned turtle hitting the divider. The passers-by informed the police and rescue teams of Jaypee authority, a company which ensures the upkeep and maintenance of 165-kilometre long expressway, and local cops reached the spot. The victims SC Yadav his wife Pushpa (55), niece Shilpi and grandson Deepanshu were carried out from the damaged car. They all were taken to the Jaypee hospital where two died after few hours of treatment and the other two are still said to be recuperating.
“We have admitted the injured persons to the hospital and have sent the bodies for postmortem examination. We have also registered a case in this regard and efforts are being made to identify the errant driver who hit the vehicle of the deputy commissioner,” said a senior police officer.
Yadav, a senior bureaucrat, was posted in South MCD and was to retire by this month end.
