Early morning is the best time to listen to music but our hectic schedule makes it difficult to enjoy the early morning hours. To make people relish live music, ‘Morning Ragas’, a series introduced by Legends of India in association with Sangeet Natak Akademi, was organised in the national Capital on last Sunday.
The concept of this weekend concert was designed by Legends of India primarily for two reasons: firstly because Sunday mornings are for spending more time in bed rather attending a concert. Over the years Ragas to be played essentially in the mornings have been widely neglected. Secondly, this concept has been designed to promote the dedicated artists from the younger generation. These concerts showcase the Legends in the making.
Present among the audience were some known musicians of Delhi such as Shrinjini Kulkarni, Nirmalya Dey, Navnita Chowdhury, Ashish Ghosh, Siddhartha Banerjee among others. Ustad Bahauddin Dagar who was also among the audience said, “These Baithaks help audience come closer to the artistes and understand music and the musicians,” ‘Morning Ragas’ helps enjoy the traditional Ragas as they are on the verge of extinction.
The program which was held at Meghdoot Auditorium, Rabindra Bhavan, mesmerized the connoisseurs of Indian classical music. On this occasion Shiraz Ali Khan chose to pay tribute to his father Late Dhyanesh Khan, grandfather Late Ustad Ali Akbar Khan and great grandfather Late Acharya Baba Allaudin Khan.
The duet recital of Shiraz Ali Khan (Sarod) and Arindam Bhattacharya (Vocal) with Sourabh Goho (Tabla) began with Raaga Nat Bhairav (Alap, Jod and Jhala) followed by Vilambitgat in teental, gat in Madhalaya and Drut Bandish. The trio from Kolkata concluded with Raga Malika with vocal support of Kesariya Balam based on Raga Mishra by Arindam Bhattacharya.
