The following announcement was made by Health Minister Satyendar Jain and was also in Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s speech during the inauguration ceremony of Baba Saheb Ambedkar Medical College on Sunday.
Speaking on the Delhi government’s move to remove private wards in the city, Kejriwal said: “In future, if a Chief Minister comes to the hospital for treatment, he will be treated in the same ward as the other patients and there will be no favourable treatment.”
Regarding various steps the Delhi government will take to improve the healthcare system in the city, Jain said that all Delhi government-run hospitals and OPD’s will be renovated and made air-conditioned. However, Jain mentioned that no private wards will be allowed to function in Delhi hospitals and that there will be a common ward where the patients will be treated.
Highlighting that there are still a lot of patients dependent on the services of government hospitals, Jain reaffirmed the government’s commitment of opening a 1000 Mohalla clinics at the end of this year along with increasing the capacity of beds from 10,000 to 20,000 in 2-3 years.
Jain says that the real progressive model for development is investment in health and education.
