The Ghaziabad police have arrested a person for critically injuring a four-year-old girl, while snatching off a chain from her mother on the busy Link Road near Kaushambi on Sunday. The girl, on a motorcycle with her father and mother, sustained bullet injuries after the chain snatchers opened fire on her. The girl was hit in the abdomen and had to be operated in a nearby hospital and is under observation in the ICU.

Police said that they have arrested the one, Yameen, from the green belt of Indirapuram early in the morning. Police claimed that Yameen is a noted chain snatcher, who has been involved in more than half a dozen snatching and looting in the area. He was running a gang of snatchers and has gone to jail several times.

He had been recently released from jail and had formed a team of snatchers. “We had formed police teams of eight SHOs and prepared a detailed list of snatchers in the area. Although Yameen had a helmet on during the incident and his face was not clear from the CCTV footage, we suspected his involvement by his physical appearance. We apprehend him with the help of CDR,” said Ajaypal, SP (city) of Ghaziabad.

The girl, Mishika, on Sunday evening, along with her family was heading for Delhi from her Indirapuram’s Gyan Khand-I residence. When they were crossing the Dabur intersection, two bike-borne snatchers approached them and pulled the woman’s gold chain off and fled away. The criminals got stuck in a traffic jam near a multiplex a short distance ahead. Soon, the family approached from behind, prompting the miscreants to open fire at them.

The bullet hit Mishika, who was seated in front. The passers-by informed the police and the girl was admitted to the ICU of Yashoda hospital, where she had to undergo a surgery. The bullet was out of her abdomen but she is under observation.
