Six people hold up shop at knife point, robbery worth Rs 12 lakh

In a shocking incident on Monday afternoon, a businessman was robbed and his employee was stabbed by six masked and armed assailants, who held them hostage inside their shop, situated in Lahori Gate area in Khadi Baoli, north Delhi. The assailants robbed Rs 12 lakh from the businessman. The incident was reported at around 3.45 pm.

The victim, a businessman named Suresh Chandra Mittal, runs a shop, which sells dry fruits and spices from a two storied building in the area.  The assailants struck when Mittal was present on the ground floor of his shop (number 87) situated in Naujiya Market His workers, including an Om Prakash, were busy working on the first floor. According to sources, around six to seven men, disguised as customers, entered the shop. All the accused covered their face with hankies after holding Mittal at knife point.

Soon after holdind Mittal at knife-point, the accused began ransacking the shop. Om Prakash, who was present on the first floor, unaware of the hold up, came to check the noise arising out of the ground floor. However, the alert accused overpowered him as soon as he entered the floor. When Om Prakash tried to resist, one of the accused stabbed him with the sharp edged weapon, which pierced his hand.

The accused then obtained the key of the locker, took out all the cash, estimated to be worth Rs 12 lakh and stuffed in a suitcase and decamped without making any noise. Both victims had their mouth taped and their hands and legs tied with ropes. Somehow they managed to free themselves and they eventually raised an alarm. The injured worker Om Prakash was rushed to a nearby government hospital. He was discharged after treatment.

Contrary to the police’ claim, the victim claimed that he was robbed off to the tune of more than Rs 20 lakh. However, police said that the facts are being verified. Meanwhile, police said that they have registered a case. ‘The case is being examined with all possible angles and the role of an insider is suspected. The workers are being questioned,’ said the police.
