Six inmates kill murder convict inside prison

Inferiority complex and necessity to win a contest on superiority led six prisoners of Tihar jail to brutally kill a 29-year-old murder convict inside the prison.

The attack took place on Wednesday at about 6.30 pm inside a prison at Jail Number 1. The incident came to light when Karamvir Kaushik, a warden noticed the fight and raised an alarm. The victim has been identified as Ravinder, who was rushed to the hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries during treatment. He received serious injuries on his neck.

The main accused has been identified as Mukesh, who provoked other inmates to attack Ravinder. Mukesh is serving sentence for three criminal cases including a murder. A senior police official confirmed that the attack took place because of the contest. The warden noticed three men stabbing Ravinder with knives in his abdomen, while Mukesh and another assailant were slitting his throat. Weapons used in the crime were recovered from their possession and probe is on to ascertain the source of these weapons.

According to senior police officials, Ravinder was initially rushed to the prison dispensary, from where he was sent to Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital. He died during treatment around midnight.
