Delhi Police have arrested the husband of a sitting Councillor from Dwarka area of South-west Delhi for his involvement in the murder of a property dealer.
The accused was identified as Ashish Tomar, resident of Kakrola More in Uttam Nagar. One automatic pistol loaded with two live cartridges has been recovered from the possession of the accused.
According to police, the accused was arrested on the basis of an information that he would come near Dwarka Sector 14 Metro station to meet his aides.
Police claimed that Tomar disclosed that he originally hails from Baghpat, Uttar Pradesh. He married Anju Gupta after a brief love affair.
His wife is a sitting Councillor of MCD from Uttam Nagar area. He had joined the gang of Manjit Mahal to earn money and influence in the area and started committing crimes.
“He is a close associate of notorious gangster Nafe Singh from the Majeet Mahal gang. He, along with his associates Punit, Praveen, Henry, Sushil and Sombir, were running a land grabbing racket in the garb of a property dealing business,” police said.
Ashish Tomar further disclosed that he and his associates hatched a conspiracy and committed the murder of a property dealer Bijender as a result of a dispute.
On November 2016, the accused and his associates ambushed Bijender near his house. As the victim left his house, they chased him and shot him dead. Later on, one of the accused, Punit Yadav was arrested by the Crime Branch in the month of November 2016.
Accused Punit Yadav disclosed that the he had handed over the weapon used in the murder of Bijender to Ashish Tomar. Since then, he was evading his arrest.
