Acting swiftly on reports regarding deaths of some children in tertiary care referral hospital, Sardar Vallabhbhai Post Graduate Institute of Paediatrics, also known as Sishu Bhawan at Cuttack, Union Health Minister JP Nadda has sent a team of paediatric experts to Odisha.
The team will extend all support and assistance to the state in examining the reasons that may have contributed to the deaths of these children, and to suggest immediate/short term and long term measures that would avert such occurrences in the future through effective management and preparedness, the ministry said in its official release.
Nadda has also directed the ministry to send a team of required specialists to assist the state in handling the critical cases of children which require urgent attention. Notably, Nadda has approved the SCB Medial College for its upgradation under the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana (PMSSY).
Reviewing the situation in <g data-gr-id="15">presence</g> of central team and state government officials, MoS (I/C) for Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas Dharmendra Pradhan assured all help from the Centre.
The team of three experts, comprising paediatrics and specialists from Lady Hardinge Medical College, RML Hospital and Safdarjung Hospital, is being led by additional secretary in Health Ministry AK Panda.
