According to the excise department, alcohol shops located in the region of Noida assembly constituency would stay shut till the closing of polls on 13 September. The outlets will re-open at 6 pm when polling will be over on Saturday and any liquor outlets found violating the orders will be fined Rs 5,000.
Although shutters of all shops are closed they are still selling alcohol below behind the shop at premium.
Customers said all the brands of alcohol are available at 50 to 100 per cent premium. At Mamura Model Wine shop at Sector 62, the owners have pierced the closed shutter from the middle while three men stand there to take orders. A bottle of beer, which generally costs Rs 120, is being sold at Rs 200 to 250, while a bottle of cheapest rum is being sold for Rs 700.
‘Due to high security and crack down, habitual drinkers are buying liquor from here. The owner has paid handsome amount as bribe to keep my shop open during dry days,’ said one of the employees at the shop.
Shockingly, a police patrolling motor bike with two policement was standing at the entrance of the shop and was working hang in gloves with the shop owner. Another shop owner said that most of the liquor is being smuggled from Haryana. ‘There are various teams conducting raids and surprise visit across the constituency .
On Thursday, we seized huge quantity of liquor from various parts of the city during our special drive. Several teams of excise officials have been formed to keep a check on selling liquor during dry days,’ said a senior official of excise department.
Meanwhile, local police claimed that all the shops are closed and action will be taken against those who are found flouting the rule.
