Chief minister Sheila Dikshit didn’t forget journalists in her Budget allocation for 2013-14, especially those accredited under Directorate of Information and Publicity (DIP). The Delhi Budget 2013-14 announced an ex-gratia welfare payment for families of journalists, in case of their untimely demise. The Delhi chief minister Sheila Dikshit in her annual Budget announced a fund of Rs 5 crore for the welfare of journalists in the national capital. In the case of the untimely demise of a journalist, especially in an accident, there’s no one left to take care of their families. There are two types of accredited journalists working in the national capital, those who are PIB holders, and DIP journalists. Under the provisions announced for journalists on Wednesday, DIP status holders, numbering 375 at present, stand to gain more than PIBs. Delhi government has created a permanent fund for journalists.
