The accused has been held after allegations were framed on him by the toddler. Police said: ‘There is a possibility that he might have assaulted other children as well.’
The incident came to light on Friday morning when the girl was admitted to a government hospital with severe stomach ache. She was also said to be bleeding. After examining her, the doctors confirmed to her parents that she had been raped.
According to the victim’s family, they have recently started sending her daughter to a play school in B block of Hari Nagar, where around 25 students have taken admission. On Wednesday afternoon, after returning home, the girl complained of stomach ache. Her mother gave her medicine for the pain to subside.
The next morning, she refused to go to the play school because of severe pain in her lower abdomen. ‘Her mother again gave her a medicine and did not send her to school. In the evening, she unintentionally urinated on her bed and repeated it till early Friday morning,’ the police official said.
In the early hours on Friday, her mother noticed blood stains on her daughter’s undergarment after which the victim was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital where the doctor claimed that she had been raped. The victim’s parents then called the police and a team reached the hospital.
With the help of an NGO, the women police staff counselled the victim after which the girl narrated her ordeal. She alleged that on Wednesday one Vikas had assaulted her.
It was learnt that Vikas is the son of the owner of the play school. ‘At the time of the incident, the accused’s parents were not in town and were visiting Vaishnu Devi. His father had handed over the responsibility of the school to him during their absence,’ the official added.
When the name of Vikas emerged as the one who is said to have raped the toddler, locals along with parents of the kids studying in the play school carried out a demonstration. When Vikas was apprehended, he was brutally beaten up by them.
A senior police official added: ‘There is a possibility that Vikas might have assaulted other children as well. We have instructed parents to counsel their children and if any of them comes up with any information, they should inform the police.’
During investigation, it also came to light that a caretaker at the play school is also involved in the crime. She was acting as a mediator and was allegedly sending kids to Vikas who used to regularly assault them. Till late Friday evening, she remained at large. ‘A man-hunt is on to nab her,’ the official said.
Meanwhile, Vikas has been admitted to a hospital as he received injuries after being thrashed by the angry protesters. He has been booked under the appropriate sections of POSCO Act. Further investigation is underway.
