Bharatiya Janta Party president Amit Shah flagged off the “Tiranga Yatra” with a bike rally, organised by party’s Yuva Morcha towards Ullal in Mangaluru, Karnataka on Sunday.

About 400 bikes participated in the rally. The “Tiranga Campaign” has been organised throughout the nation by BJP to celebrate 70th years if independence.

At Ullal, the statue of Rani Akbbara was festooned by Shah. Rani Abbakka was the queen of Ullal, who fought the Portuguese in the latter half of the 16th century.

A fortnight long “Azadi 70 Yaad Karo Qurbani”, the initiative has been organised by the Government of India to felicitate freedom fighters, who had been conferred with gallantry. Central Ministers and party leaders would also be birth places of national icons and places of historical importance related to India’s independence movement. The vast array of activities would be undertaken in an attempt to capture the festive spirit of the occasion.

Even after making mark in states like, Kerala, Tamil Nadu and West Bengal, BJP leadership also want to salvage the governance in the state of Karnataka. Taking an opportunity of recent political development and political ambiguity in the Congress led government; the saffron party is trying to put the election gear for the next assembly poll which is scheduled in 2018. Nomination of former Chief Minister of the state, BS Yeddyurappa as the president of the state BJP last month should be read in that context.

Earlier, Shah visited the BJP district office and planted a sapling. The rally was attended among others by Union minister DV Sadananda Gowda and BJP state president BS Yeddyurappa.
