Update: 2013-08-13 23:16 GMT
Intelligence Bureau (IB) has once again written a letter to Delhi police officials warning them about a possible terror strike in the national capital, sources said. Earlier too, IB had warned the Delhi police after which the security in Delhi was tightened up.

The new letter has asked the Delhi police to remain alert even after Independence Day. Quoting the letter, sources said, 530 places in Delhi have been identified as sensitive areas and could be on the radar of terrorists.

Some time back, Lashker-e-Taiba (LeT) founder and 26/11 mastermind Hafiz Saeed had openly threatened that members of the outfit will carry out an attack in Delhi. On the occasion of Id, Saeed had again delivered a speech hinting at possible terror attacks.

Sources in Delhi police’s special cell said, ‘We have deployed our best officers at all the sensitive areas in Delhi. All the district police along with the station head officers of all the police stations are putting their best efforts to maintain security.’

Delhi police chief BS Bassi has asked the senior police officers of traffic to start a special drive to keep a check on all the vehicles especially in the border areas. Anil Shukla, additional commissioner of police (traffic), said, ‘We have deployed large number of traffic cops near border ares to check each and every vehicle entering Delhi.’

Another source in Delhi police said, ‘We have personally asked our eyes and ears (vendors, shopkeepers) to remain alert. We have dropped our personal phone numbers with them so that if they get any clue they should inform us.’‘The crowded places, including the market areas, are the easiest target of the terror groups,’ the official added.
