In a tragic incident, a 50-year-old security guard was decapitated when he got caught in an excavator machine at a construction site in north-west Delhi’s Jahangirpuri area on Sunday morning.
At the time of the incident, the machine was being used for digging in the area. The incident took place at around 7.30 am when the security guard identified as Mansoor Beig was standing close to the excavation site. Suddenly his head was severed clean by the machine and he was killed. Beig was deployed at the spot to ensure that no one goes near the machine to avoid being hurt.
“During a swing of the machine’s arm, Beig’s head was severed and it fell in the dug out soil while the torso collapsed on the spot. As eyewitnesses screamed in disbelief, the excavator’s operator, identified as Naresh Kumar, stopped work and fled the spot,” said a senior police officer privy to investigation said.
After the news about the tragic incident spread among the locals, they gathered at the spot and started pelting stones at the construction site. The mob also tried to break the machine but failed. According to police officials, it took nearly 45 minutes to find the severed head from the rubble. When the severed head was found, the body was immediately rushed to the nearby hospital. After informing the family of the deceased, the body has been sent for the post-mortem examination whose reports are awaited. Mansoor Beig had been working as a security guard at the site for the last five years. It was a large landfill site in Jahangirpuri. The security guard and the excavator machine were employed by MCD.
The vehicle was seized and his body was later handed over to his family which lives in G-Block slum cluster of Jahangirpuri.
The operator, who has been absconding since the incident, was booked for causing death by negligence and negligent conduct with respect to machinery. A manhunt has been launched to nab him, the police officer said.
