Interestingly, the SDMC had already invited tenders for the said parking sites twice. However, due to the high contract prices no registered contractor has shown any interest in the sites.
Manish Gupta, commissioner of SDMC said that the corporation will invite tenders for the sites again with reduced rates. ‘We will float the tenders for the parking sites again. We have asked our Remunerative Project Cell to come up with the updated monthly license fee (MLF) for the sites,’ Gupta said.
It is believed that the said sites are not located at prime location and to add to that the corporation has set a high price for the contract. The last tender for the sites was invited on 18 December, 2013. One of the contractors said that the sites are over-priced for them. ‘We will not even be able to recover the MLF, let alone profit,’ said the contractor. ‘For instance, some sites which should be priced at Rs 1.60 lakh per month, was set at Rs 2.20 lakh per month’, informed the contractor.
Contractor fined
Taking tough action against parking contractors, the North Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC) has imposed a penalty of Rs 3.5 lakh on a contractor for violating parking rules.
The Remunerative Project Cell (RP) of NDMC imposed the penalty on Lakhwinder Singh for not putting the required sign boards such as name of the contractor, number of cars that can be parked, and validity of the contract.
The raid conducted by the enforcement department of NDMC revealed that the 12 tourist buses were also found parked on those sites. After receiving the report from the enforcement department, the RP cell issued show cause notice to the contractor.
