SDMC scraps Defence Colony multi-level parking complex

Update: 2014-03-01 00:26 GMT
The South Delhi Municipal Corporation has decided to scrap multi-level parking cum commercial space complex in Defence Colony, after the Delhi High Court put a stay on its construction. The order was placed over confusion regarding land use of the said site.

According the reports available with Millennium Post, the land on which the parking facility was to be built, belongs to the Land and Development Office (L&DO) and any construction on the site requires prior permission of the agency. The Defence Colony RWA also filed a writ petition in the High Court last year maintaining that the land is a notified green area and the project cannot be pursued. The matter is still pending in court.

MCD officials wrote a letter to the L&DO to resolve the dispute at the earliest as delays in mulit-storey parking will cause inconveniences to the public. However, they have not received any reply till now. The project was given to a company on Public Private Partnership basis for 35 years. The concessionaire of the project has also been demanding a refund of the money he paid as concession fees due to delays in the project.
