South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) on Monday informed that it has registered just one dengue case in the last five months. The South Corporation, which recorded highest number of dengue cases last year, came out strong this year and has managed to launch a successful campaign against dengue.
Leader of House of the SDMC, Subhash Arya, said that the South Corporation is taking continuous measures to keep the deadly disease at bay. “It is a huge achievement for SDMC. No malaria cases have been reported and only one dengue case has been reported so far. The Corporation is doing fogging as per requirement as the process of fogging is lethal for the health of asthma patients. We are ensuring that fogging is only done in areas where mosquito breeding is being detected,” he added.
Cases of malaria too have gone down drastically. The Corporation, in order to control a massive outbreak, has launched an Intensive Dengue Prevention Drive in its all wards especially on weekends, so that besides anti-larvae and fumigation of the area, citizens could also be sensitised about its prevention. The drive comprised teams of Malaria Department for multi-throng activities like anti-larvae drive, fumigation through handheld machines, vehicle-mounted fogging machine, power spray for stagnant water in large quantity, domestic breeding checkers for door-to-door checking and one-to-one education about preventive measures. Besides this, mobile public address system was used to educate and create awareness for taking preventive measures by each and everyone to check the spread of dengue. “The need of the hour is to tackle the issue of dengue practically. All the measures are being taken up by SDMC to ensure relief from the deadly disease,” added Arya.
