South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) on Friday organised a number of functions to mark the National Triggering Day on elimination of open defecation. A few interactions were organised for the benefit of the departments concerned.
SDMC Mayor Shyam Sharma inspected Sangam Vihar Colony to see for himself the status of sanitation and cleanliness there. He underlined the need of making successful the Swatch Bharat Mission launched by Prime Minister earlier.
On noticing garbage at Sangam Vihar, Sharma instructed the officers and staff concerned to streamline the sanitation and cleanliness efforts at the earliest. The efforts in this regard at regular interval ie daily will make the entire locality clean and also minimise the chances of outbreak of diseases.
It is of paramount importance to focus attention on cleanliness during rainy season.
Sharma exhorted to bring awareness on elimination of open defecation. He also elaborated the importance of a city free of open defecation.
He stated that the civic agency has commissioned around two dozen NAMMA toilets at different places. The NAMMA toilets have been designed keeping in view the standards of cleanliness. He added that the Corporation will set up another 100 such toilets at public places.
