With the onset of monsoon in the Capital, the South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) has announced to intensify its activities to ensure prevention and control of vector-borne diseases. The civic body on Monday launched its Dengue Toll Free Helpline number 1800112260 which is functioning round-the-clock with over a dozen number of lines and operators and has also been helping in providing information in respect of prevention from dengue.
“In view of the last year’s cases we have taken anti-dengue measures. The Public Health Department has also started reviewing the situation on a weekly basis. Further, the actions being taken on the basis of the review results are being closely monitored at the highest level,” said Mayor Shyam Sharma.
Data provided by the South Corporation revealed that during the first six months of the current calendar year 1,48,775 houses have been sprayed across the localities. Positive breeding was found in 21,764 houses. The SDMC while taking a cue from the increased number of breeding of mosquitoes, decided to accelerate the pace of issuing the legal notices for mosquitogenic conditions and prosecution. As many as 19,321 legal notices have been issued, whereas, 976 cases of prosecutions have been launched. The Corporation has been concentrating on the visits to check the breeding of mosquitoes in tourist places, religious places, public schools, colleges, monuments, big establishments and institutions of repute including government offices and PSUs.
Data revealed that during the months of May and June the SDMC displayed its dedicated actions by enhancing its anti-dengue measures. 1,38,169 houses were sprayed, whereas, breeding was detected in 17,488 houses. During the same period 15,381 notices were issued and 824 cases of prosecution were launched.
By June end, a total of 14,675 blood slides were collected for malaria. During the month of May and June 5,109 blood samples were collected. Further, the civic agency has kept ready its entire man power, machines and material for this purpose.
