The health department of South Delhi Municipal Corporation reportedly purchased insecticides worth over Rs 10 crore without the approval of mayor and standing committee. The department also allegedly violated old guidelines of the committee in purchasing the drugs.
‘It’s a clear case of connivance of municipal health officer (MHO) and the officials of the companies which provide the drugs. They violated the rules just to ensure their cut in the purchase,’ said Satender Choudhary, a BJP councillor and member of the standing committee in South DMC.
As per the rules of the SDMC, no money can be spent without the approval of the standing committee.
The municipal health officer, however, informed the meeting that he issued the order on the directions of erstwhile Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD). A five-member committee will now investigate the matter.
