The Scottish Church College – which was closed down after some unruly students allegedly entered into an administrative meeting to threaten the teachers there, will open on Tuesday. But the classes, study and other activities related to curriculum will begin on Wednesday.

It is to be recalled that the authorities of Scottish Church College decided to shut down the institute indefinitely following student unrest on Wednesday night. Some students allegedly entered an administrative meeting, demanding return of Amit Abraham, the former principal, who resigned from post a month ago. State education minister Partha Chatterjee was informed about the matter.

The decision of shutting down the college was taken after the incident. The college authority, however, decided to reopen it on Tuesday after a discussion with the state education department. The authority on Monday declared that the college will open on Tuesday, but no classes will be taken. There will be a meeting among the teachers and governing authority. The classes will remain open on Wednesday.

The agitation started around 3.30pm last Wednesday and continued till 9.30pm. A group of students, around 15-20 in number, started the agitation.

The student started beating the door, when the building committee meeting was going on.

A new building is coming up on the campus, being built with UGC funds. Managing Rector and Secretary John Abraham, who is also a member of the building committee, was present at the meeting. The students started giving slogans of ‘Go back Rector’.

The student demanded the return of Amit Abraham. They want him to come back as their principal. Amit resigned a month back.

Former principal John Abraham was reinstated as managing rector. The appointment of John was not liked by the students union allegedly because John allowed excess admission this year.
