School van collides with vehicle, 12 kids hurt; 1 held

Twelve children sustained minor injuries after their school van collided with another vehicle and turned turtle after hitting a divider at Outer Delhi’s Alipur area on Thursday morning. According to the police, they have arrested the errant driver, 36-year-old Anil.

According to the police, the accident took place at the red light on the National Highway-1 near Khampur village. The driver of the Maruti school van, Anil was ferrying children of the Jain Bharti Senior Secondary School at Budhpur when his van hit the central verge on the road at a high speed at around 7.30 am.

Eyewitnesses said that the van was coming from Lampur village after picking up twelve students of the school.

Sources said that all the students were of classes II-IX. The injured have been identified as Hansika, Vanshika, Shabd, Rajnish, Sonu, Ria, Monika, Pooja, Samar, Kirti and Tanuj.

The accident created major chaos in the area and people gathered at the spot to help the injured. A local made a PCR call to the police and ambulance, said a police official.

Police said that all the children were immediately sent to the Satyawadi Raja Harish Chandra Hospital in Narela where five suffered major injuries and were discharged late in the evening while seven children were treated for minor injuries. All are out of danger.

A senior police official said that they have registered a case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code at the Alipur police station. Further investigations in the matter is still on.
