A State Bank of India ATM loaded with lakhs of rupees was destroyed after it caught fire in north west Delhi’s Rani Bagh area late on Saturday.
Fire department officials have conjectured that a short circuit might have caused the incident. The police received the call around 10.30 pm that an ATM machine installed at Rani Bagh main market caught fire.
Immediately, policemen and officials of Delhi Fire Service rushed to the spot. Two fire tenders reached the spot and took around 1 hour to douse the flames completely, said a senior police officer.
According to the police, the call was made by a youth, who was identified as Munavvar. He had come to withdraw some cash from the machine. While coming out, he noticed fumes coming out of the machine, said the officer. He then made a police control room call. Lakhs were gutted.
