Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mufti Muhammad Sayeed rushed to Srinagar on Sunday to personally monitor the situation arising from incessant rains in the Kashmir Valley.
This is Sayeed’s first visit to the valley after he took over as the Chief Minister of the state on March 1, 2015.
Deputy CM Nirmal Singh informed the Assembly that the administration is on “full alert” in the wake of heavy rains in the Valley and the situation is being monitored continuously. He added that people should not panic as all precautionary measures have been put in place.
Meanwhile, the Met department said the Valley does not face a flood threat. However, many residents of Srinagar began shifting to safer areas as the water level in the Jhelum rose menacingly. The flood control department said the present water level in the Jhelum was much below the danger mark of 18feet at Ram Munshibagh and so there was no reason to panic.
