Say no to drugs, education minister tells school kids

‘Say no to drugs’ is the mantra that Delhi government is trying to progate among school children and educational institutions.

The minister of education, Kiran Walia, exhorted this while she was giving away the cash prizes and citations to the top 10 winners of painting competitions organised in 967 government schools on drug abuse in a function organised at Delhi secretariat on Thursday. The Department of Prohibition, in collaboration with education department, organised the painting competitions in the schools where around five lakh students participated and brought their ideas on canvas.

Walia said that government is committed to create awareness among school children by way of organising a number of events such as painting competition, symposium and seminars, rallies and street plays. The minister said that with a view to create awareness about the ill-effects of the drugs whether they are consumed in the form of liquor, alcohol, smoking or any type of other drugs which weakens the body of the human being.

Keeping this in the view, the department of prohibition organised a mega event of painting competition in all the schools wherein large number of students about 4,90,000 participated and expressed their view point through their paintings. The selected paintings were further short listed to 20,000 and thereafter further shortlisted at the district level at 11 districts, 55 students in each category.

At the state level, they were further shortlisted to 10 final winners which were given the awards.der Chandolia, and Leader of House of NDMC Mahinder Nagpal were also present on the ocassion.
