Update: 2013-03-29 01:12 GMT
Delhi BJP president Vijay Goel has asked the government to save water bodies in the Delhi. He demanded a white paper on acute shortage of drinking water in the city.

‘The water problem of the city is due to shrinking water water bodies in the city,’ said Goel during a visit to Sanjay Ganhi Lake in east Delhi.

He further added that over 263 water bodies of Delhi have become extinct, 75 became sewage and 80 are facing acute encroachments.

According to Goel, not so long ago, over 1,022 water bodies existed in Delhi and if they are revived the problem of drinking water could be solved.

‘We demand a white paper from the government on the issue and a time bound action,’ said Goel.
