Santosh Anand demands CBI probe into son’s death

Update: 2014-10-17 00:06 GMT
Anand had recently had a paralytic attack and is still recovering from the shock of losing his son and daughter-in-law.

On the night of 14 October, his son Sankalp Anand along with his wife Nandini and three-year-old daughter, had jumped before a moving train near Mathura. Sankalp had also left behind a long suicide note in which a few officials from the National Institute of Criminology and Forensic Science, where he worked, were named as the cause behind the extreme step. Since the institute comes under the union home ministry, it has ordered an inquiry into the matter.

The family, however, is demanding a CBI probe. ‘We want the CBI to probe the allegations made by
Sankalp in his suicide note,’ the victim’s cousin said.

While Sankalp and his wife died on the spot, their three-year-old daughter Ridhima survived as she fell on gravels beside the railway track. Local immediately rushed her to hospital.

A tearful Santosh Anand, meanwhile, says he has nothing to live for. ‘I have lost my son. I’m devastated,’ said the musician. In his 11-page suicide note, Sankalp alleged the officials to be a part of a Rs 250 crore scam in which he too was involved, said sources. He was also said to be under large financial debts, the source added.

‘Sankalp and his wife, Naresh Nandini Anand (35), led a very simple life, never showing any signs of being under pressure. But the suicide note shows he was being pressurised to indulge in something unlawful,’ said a relative.  An official from the Rohini-based National Institute of Criminology and Forensic Science, where Sankalp worked as lecture, said that Sankalp had last taken a class on 14 October.  ‘Since then, he had not contacted anyone from the institute,’ the officer said requesting anonymity.
