Indo-Spanish pair of Sania Mirza and Nuria Llagostera lost out to Americans Raquel Kops-Jones and Abigail Spears in the women’s doubles quarter-finals  of the Kremlin Cup on Thursday.

The third seeds were upset in one hour and 40 minutes in the last eight clash.

Double faults proved costly for Sania and Nuria as they served six of them at crucial junctures of the match in comparison to two of their opponents.

The unseeded Americans also broke the Indo-Spanish pair when needed in a topsy-turvy match where services were regularly broken.

Meanwhile, Somdev Devvarman’s on-court struggle continued post a comeback as he lost his sixth consecutive first round match when he suffered a straight-set defeat  against Ernest Gulbis at ATP Erste Bank Open on Thursday.

The unseeded Indian, whose ranking has plummeted to 579 lost to his wild-card opponent from Latvia 6-7[6] 3-6 in one hour and 43 minutes.

Somdev, who missed action for about seven months in the 2012 season due to a shoulder surgery, has now lost all his matches since comeback.
