Super-efficient Equipment and Appliance Deployment (SEAD) has awarded LG and Samsung the first SEAD Global Efficiency Medals for manufacturing the most energy efficient TVs in India.
An initiative of the Clean Energy Ministerial and a task within the International Partnership for Energy Efficiency Cooperation (IPEEC), SEAD seeks to engage governments and the private sector to transform the global market for energy-efficient equipment and appliances.
This global awards program encourages the production and sale of super-efficient televisions by identifying the most efficient products in three different sizes in the commercially available category, emerging technology category and four geographical regions. The winners for the India region in the commercially available product category and emerging technology category were announced by the Union Ministry of Power's Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE).
'Television sets (TVs) account for 12 to 15 per cent of India’s residential electricity consumption. By recognising most energy efficient TVs in both commercially available and emerging technologies, the competition has accelerated efficiency gains in existing technologies in the market, as well as introduced new technologies. Increased sales of award-winning television sets can result in significant energy savings,' said Abha Shukla, Secretary (BEE).
