NRI professionals in Tokyo came up with the slogan: ‘I skip lunch, donate that money to AAP’ in a bid to contribute to nation-building. AAP on Friday uploaded a two-minute video on a social networking website page, which shows NRI volunteers from Tokyo skipping lunch and dinner and saving the money to donate for AAP’s fund.

‘Corruption-free India is our goal and to achieve this, Indians in Japan decided to skip lunch today and donate money to AAP’, said Ishwarappa, an engineer from Tokyo. Damanpreet, an engineer in Tokyo, said, ‘India needs corruption-free society. Justice and equality should be available to all sections of society irrespective of religion, caste and community.’ He also raised questions over women’s safety and security and lamented the lack of adequate facilities and police protection to make women feel safe.

In a related development, AAP’s electoral venture is also gaining support from a network of volunteers, comprising students from over 40 universities in the US, Canada, Britain, Hungary and Singapore. A number of websites and surveys show AAP’s growing popularity across the globe. The network of students and academics has grown to include several global universities, where students take time out from their undergraduate and postgraduate studies to volunteer for AAP and collect donations from those willing to make financial contributions.

‘These students are taking cue from Anna movement of 2011 which enthused Indian youths across the globe. They support the idea that the system must change and think AAP has provided them with this opportunity,’ says Dilip Pandey, an AAP spokesperson. ‘The students are truly inspired by Arvind Kejriwal and AAP. The opportunity to remove corruption and improve lives of common people in India, the core promises of AAP, has energised students and young professional communities the world over,’ added Pandey.
