Ruthless Djoker trumps Nadal in Tour finals

Update: 2013-11-13 23:05 GMT
Djokovic jumped into the air off all its feet at once to celebrate his third win in the year-end tournament with a 6-3, 6-4 victory in one hour and 36 minutes.

The Serb also extended his winning streak to 22 matches. He has been unbeaten since losing Nadal in the US Open final on 9 September.

Nadal, who still leads Djokovic with 22 wins against 17 defeats, is still waiting for his first win in the event. He entered the final for the first time in 2010 but was defeated by Roger Federer.

In the doubles final, Spaniards Fernando Verdasco and David Marrero, seeded sixth and debutants in the season finale, beat the top-seeded pairing of American twins Bob and Mike Bryan 7-5, 6-7, 10-7 in 1 hour and 44 minutes.

Djokovic has perfect launchpad for 2014 assault on slams

LONDON: Novak Djokovic said he will use his 22-match winning streak as a launchpad for an all-out assault on more Grand Slam titles next year.

The Serb claimed the ATP World Tour Finals title for a third time on Monday with an authoritative win over world number one Rafa Nadal and believes he has taken his game to a new level since losing to the Spaniard in the US Open final.

Djokovic’s first priority is to regain the Davis Cup for Serbia in this week’s final against the Czech Republic, then after re-charging his batteries it will be all-systems go.

‘This can serve as a great platform for 2014 season,’ Djokovic said.  ‘I’m extra motivated and inspired to work and get myself, first of all, rested and recovered in the off-season, and then work on my game and get ready for the Australian Open.

‘The only thing I’m not as satisfied about (this season) is the fact that I lost the three big matches in the three Grand Slams. The Grand Slams are the tournaments where I want to win, where I want to get my hands on the title. ‘That will be my highest priority for next year.’
